Which pedal set for manual conversion

Well I bought an 01E gearbox and mtm flywheel clutch kit for an impending manual conversion.

Now I m looking for a pedal set.....what is the reasoning behind why a left hand drive pedal set wont work in a rhd s8...

Also what options do i have in terms of pedal set?

Thanks

Ranj

I would imagine a LHD pedal box will be shaped incorrectly to fit a RHD footwell in terms of mounting points and shape. I've not seen an '8 pedal box off the car so might be worth a look at the open day and see how likely it is that the pedal box will be fairly universal. I would imagine the LHD clutch pedal would foul the transmission tunnel. If the pedal box will fit you might be able to offset the pedals to make it fit?

Think I remember reading that an A6 pedal box could be modified to fit? There's always work arounds - it's a case of how much fabrication is required to make it work and be reliable.

Item 1 in the attached is the main part that's different, but ideally you'd want a complete pedal box I suspect

I had wondered just recently if an A6 C5 pedal set might be any use..... Dont read too much into that, just wondering... +++

C5 A6 pedal box has very different fitment, totally unrelated to the D2. C5 pedal box carries 8D0 part numbers, which is B5 A4...

I wondered if you could use the clutch pedal part off the C5 and make it fit the existing D2 pedal box?

Never seen either, so only taking a stab in the dark about what might be compatible. If it's been done before then there must be info on the interweb somewhere?

I have a LHD manual pedal box and RHD pedal box I got from A8 parts.
I will bring both to the owners meet on the 15th of June.

I originally wanted to install the LHD pedal box because the mounting points are essentially the same as the RHD pedal box.
The main obstacle to this is that the mounting points and hole for the brake booster are on the wrong side. I was hoping to physically move the brake booster to make it connect up to the LHD box, but there is no room to move the brake booster because the body work wont allow it. You can easily see the brake booster when you open the bonnet.

My next idea was to mount a custom clutch pedal to the standard RHD pedal box. There is enough room to do this. The problem here is that because of the brake booster clevis and piston which protrudes into the pedal box, there is barely enough room to mount the clutch master cylinder, but I do beleive it is possible with some clever aluminium welding and machining to make custom mounts for the master cylinder.
Then the additional challenge is that you would needa custom over-centre spring for the clutch pedal.

I am planning to buy a second had A6 C5 manual pedal box, I'm hoping the easiest solution may be to machine off all the protruding bits (on the inside of the footwell) on the A8 pedal box and weld the A6 pedal box onto the A8 pedal box. Then hopefully all that would need to be done is change the clevis on the A8 brake booster to the ball connection that the A6 pedal box uses.

Then I need to find someone who does aluminium welding. Do Unit 20 do aluminium welding?

Surely it is 2nd/3rd of June??

And the 'lump' in the footwell would foul the clutch IIRC.

Pedal Box

I can see that getting a pedal box to fit and work is gona take some creativity here. Unfortunately, I have never done any work on the clutch or brake pedal assembly so I have a steep learning curve on my hands.

But Goran I think your idea with the c5 pedal box seems the most plausible at present...

Thanks for the input guys...this is definitely a tricky one..

Ranj, your not going to be able to do this on the driveway. Get a ramp fitted or something even if it's in your garden if you really want to go ahead,it doesn't need to be indoors. Yeah, a manual gearbox is nice, I should know. I've driven a manual S8, but it's not worth the effort and the auto box suits the S8. If you want a manual car, get yourself an M3/RS4. This car is suited to the auto box. Will be AMAZING if you get it done but it is going to be such a stressful and involved project, I know Nollywood has done one before, might be worth hiring him for a few days to guide you. MRC have done a manual RS6 too, they had to have a load of new parts fabricated and the companies that done the work have gone bust now.
