Will RNS-E Hybrid TV tuner from my D2 fit in D3 MMI?

Not sure whether i should post this is in the D2 or D3 forum but here goes for nothing!

As title really...if I was thinking of parting with my much loved 2001 S8 and going D3 would the Audi Hybrid TV Tuner (I bought off Ian some time ago) in my D2 feeding a retrofitted RNS-E work on the back end of a D3 MMI that might not have TV fitted as standard?

Just thinking out loud here... :D

Thanks & kind regards,

Simply put, no.

The MMI on the A8 (and later on, the A6 and A4) all use a fibre optic bus called MOST.

The RNS-E is far more basic, and just canbus + video etc....

In short, they are about the same size physically, but otherwise, couldnt be any more different +++

On the plus side, the RNS-E digi tuners are still in demand, so should have no bother moving it on for roughly what a D3 tuner will cost...

Aah...that's a pity. :(

At least I did fit the tuner...still have the MFSW that I bought from you years ago in a box with all the relevant bits I think. :p

Never did get round to fitting that...looking for inspiration really.

I know you done a terrific write up and Sergey has also travelled this road but I'm still wondering where to start...

I'd be interested in your existing hybrid tuner for rns-e if you decide to sell it. I have an analogue rns-e box I can part-ex if you don't still have yours :)

Like you Adrian I also have the older analogue TV tuner from the retrofitted RNS-E install.

I also have the original TV Tuner that was originally factory fitted alongside the RNS-D.

Unlike you I also have the Hybrid Digital/Analogue tuner and now I need to buy yet another Hybrid TV tuner!

So you see I have enough TV Tuners already Adrian so,you will excuse me if I pass on your kind generous offer...

Thanks & kind regards,

No worries - the person I bought my car from threw all the old tuner and rns-d parts in a bin so I thought I'd offer

Still interested in a straight buy if you decide to take it out, but guessing you'll leave it in the d2 to help it sell?

Fancy throwing them away?

I kept everything, the old RNS-D, CD Changer, 3 x TV Tuners; 1 RNS-D & 1 RNS-E and tomorrow I will have a D3 TV Tuner spare - all analogue unfortunately but still good if you are the last bastion of analogue TV and even better if you want to enable their AV1/AV2 inputs for a camera, iPod or other A/V signal I suppose.

I even kept the little silver TMC module that lived behind the dash to enable the RNS-D to talk 'Bosch' to the cluster.

Still have some genuine Audi CD & DVD Navigation discs here...some still sealed!

Kind regards,

Sorry to slighty wander off the original thread, but is there a simple plug and play option to swap out the analogue tuner with a digital one on an RNS-D on a D2, by plug and play I am thinking something that uses the existing antenae etc and probably just needs a Kufatec adapter lead to connect it all up?

cheers

I'd like to know that as well, but I think it's been asked before.........

And I think the answer was use the AV input and a 3rd-party tuner with separate controls (remote or cabled).:(

I believe this is what you seek:

http://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/produc...M-Control.html

Its not 100% oem look, but close as the Tuner is completely controlled through the RNS-D, so way better than IR controls etc.

Can also have a DVD player bolted on I think....
