Boot trim/lining - am I missing something?
Delving deep inside the boot of my PF S8 I've taken the thin dark carpet-like trim away from the back of the seats, looking for routes through for cables.
(planning installation for my DVB-T tuner) I then realised that the boot "roof" (bottom side of rear parcel shelf) was bare metal and wondered if it should be...... Looking at it there are loads of unused holes that a trim panel could fit to, and the bottoms of the Bose speakers are potentially exposed to damage. So, is there a semi-rigid panel of some sort that should be there, or is that normal? |
Pretty sure that's normal.. My D2 was the same... Always thought the speakers were at risk from damage.

Mine has some plastic covers over the Bose speaker backs (different sizes each side if I remember right) but apart from a tiny bit of furry material on the very visible part of the top edge of the boot there's plenty of bare metal exposed.

I thought maybe the furry strip was an indication that something abutted it. The speaker covers aren't sealed, presumably for acoustic reasons, so plenty of room for debris to get in - or sharp objects. |
Don't put sharps in the boot +++

my D2 was also like this, but not the D3 they have covers on every bit of bare metal you can think of

I once test drove a Honda accord type r and one of several things that put me right off is that there was the sum total of no panel work in the boot at all, bar the carpet. Even the lid itself had the std cover removed to 'add lightness' as the dealers always term it when they take something off and charge more for it lol |
