Mini project number 2

Yes, the first project isnt complete yet but oppurtunity number 2 was too good to miss.

A 2000 year, LPG converted S8 with a host of problems, all apparently connected to a steering rack change.

So, Airbag, ABS, ESP, brakes and brake pad warning. Steering wheel is also off center, 2 bald tyres, faulty screenwash, no horn, and 3 days left on its MOT.

A good long list, but nothing terminal or overly complicated me thinks.

I've already done some exploratory work, so we're moving forwards quickly with this one. The big question is, which one car will I keep ? The A8 that gives me 30 MPG, or the S8 that is even cheaper to run.... Ho hum... :D

I'd keep the S8. Even if it gave 16 MPG. gas mileage isn't really that much of a concern to me. Otherwise I'd be driving a Volkswagen Polo I3 TDI.

The BMW's my "sensible" ride, depending on where I'm going, and how many miles I'll be covering.

Well, all the hard work is done. MOT booked in for 9:30 tomorrow.

2 new track rod arms
2 replacement rear tyres
New steering wheel slip ring, ABS module recoded and basic settings performed
Steering wheel removed and re-centered after new steering rack
Ancient Nokia car kit removed
Airbag light reset
Binding Front caliper replaced
Blocked Windscreen washer nozzles replaced

Still wants a good wash and a run out, but hopefully do that once she gets her 12 month ticket tomorrow... +++

Cant really go wrong with an S8 on Prins LPG, hence why looking to keep this one over the A8 at the moment.... :D

Now the big question, did it pass the MOT?

No... Needed a steering rack gaitor.. Grrrr.. and I was away for the week, so instead picked it up Saturday morning all done and dusted hurrah !

Ok, MOT done.

Today:

Put on 5 virtually brand new tyres
Changed front discs
Checked and topped up ATF
Regassed air con
Filled up the LPG tank for the first time and tested - all good
Freed up the boot lock that had seized

Drives a lot better now - One of the front discs was warped, and the old wheels weren't balanced which made an awful ride. It does seem more composed now, in a sporty firm S8 sort of way... ;)

To do:

Fit new PDC sensor - Got today
Fit new cruise stalk - Got today
Sort broken HVAC flap motor - Got one of them
Sort passenger armrest mount which is stuck - Got a spare of them
Sort front door lower sill trims (they always get snagged for some reason)
Add full set of carpet mats as they're missing - Got some of them
Re-attached the handbrake trim

Daughters birthday tomorrow, and in London all week <doh> but hope to sort this lot out in a few hours next weekend then shes ready to hit the classifieds +++
