Pre-1960 cars exempted from mot

Makes sense given the small number of vehicles involved and how much of the annual test doesn't apply to them anyway! |
Not sure how I feel about this. It is always reassuring to have a MOT certified mechanic cast an eye over my old car just incase I miss anything. Another good point to old cars having MOTs is that when you come to sell them an MOT gives prospective buyers an indication of what condition the vehicle is in.
I can just imagine next year when all the old barn stored cars come out of hiding and return to the road without having been checked over thoroughly by a qualified person. I might be wrong but I think this could bite the government on the bum |
I wonder if vehicles that haven't been insured/taxed for a long period of time will now require an inspection before they can be taxed/used?
I guess they've done a bit of number crunching on the potential sheds sitting unused in garages, but to be honest even if they came out of retirement I'm guessing they're going to break down fairly soon after, or fall to pieces, or get pulled by plod for looking ropey..... |
I don't agree with it!!!!
I own 4 classics which only do 500 max a year but mine have to be taxed moted and insured..........and the real bug bear is none of my cars will ever become classics as the cut off date was may 72!!! Bah bah grumble grumble |
Beginning to wish I had kept my old land rovers.

Don’t forget there are already a lot of vehicles out there on our roads that are already MOT exempt, Taxi’s for instance they have to make up the biggest group and Police cars and sometimes people have no choice but to get into one of those and may even be forced. Your Audi’s may well become classics, well they are already but they will never become historic and tax exempt :( |
