Webasto Aux heater
Hello all,
As I'm sure you all realize, I'm doing quite a bit to my car right now, alcantara, air suspension, rear fridge, automated boot lid, comfort turns, possibly a solar roof, etc., etc. Anyway, I'm thinking about adding the parking heater option to my car as well using some parts available from Germany. What I know I need are the heater, the door switch, and some hoses. What else will I need to accomplish this? Is there a control module or relay system? I'm awaiting arrival of a Bentley Manual as we speak, but even so I'm not sure the diagrams for this are featured in it. Any advice or insight is appreciated. |
Do you have a diesel? Can't remember what engine you have, these need diesel, and a low temperature before they will kick in.

Perhaps too there is a difference between "auxiliary heater" and "parking heater." The latter is what I am referring to.

If my memory serves me correctly (and I can't remember if it does!) the Webastos in the Audis are electric. Part of the winter pack is an auxillary battery that sits above the primary battery.
Do a search with 'Webasto' there are a couple of threads regarding the control electronics on the forum. |
Maybe there was an electric one for petrols, certainly the diesel engined cars use a little diesel powered one.

Resting heater (parking ?) is used after a journey where engin is warm. Yu park up with engine off, and resting heater will run normal fans but use small electric pump to move coolant round to get as much heat as possible into the cabin. Once the coolant is cold thats it. It is standard on all D2 and D3 (certainly in UK)
Aux heater has webasto heater, which uses car fuel - Petrol or diesel. It is designed to get car heated up before you drive off. All diesel D3's have the heater anyway and I think D2 diesels too as it helps get the coolant up to temp quicker when engine is cold. With proper Aux heater package you get 2nd battery and a pump to pump the coolant round, so the webasto heats the coolant up (and thus pre-warms the engine etc) and allows blowers in car to blow warm air before you get into the car. With any diesel D3 you can modify the settings to enable Aux heating in HVAC and it will work - but - because they are not fitted with the pump to move the coolant round, the webasto will basically overheat and shut itself down...... The Aux heating can also do cooling - So it can use fans to blow cold (not A/C obviously) air into the cabin. Because of all this blower action, the Aux heating package has a second battery so you can still start the car when you get to it +++ |
