Rear door glass replacement

Well, during a recent trip to holland, someone had a go at stealing the box of rubbish that i had left on the back seat....the anti theft glass did such a good job that i didnt even notice till late in the day.

The fact that the would-be thief had to have two goes before giving up took the sting out of the incident, but has left me with some work to do.

I *thought* that i had privacy glass, so managed to track a replacement tinted window from a 2008 model from fleabay (a8parts didnt have one) and fitted it today....now the problem.....

Having fitted it, it doesnt close properly- it binds closing so needs some help to close, and even then leaves a 10mm gap at the top.

Have i installed it wrong, or have i got the wrong part?

Why did you not just get a car glass company to change it for a brand new one. You'll get a nice new Audi one, for the cost of your glass excess and they'll fit it as well.

That was not too helpful an answer....

Did you possibly bend one of the guides, is there some debris in the channels?

The glass is very unlikely to be wrong size/shape so I'd be looking for something simple.

Try some lubrication and work it up and down a few times and see if it frees up!

I also remved the mounting panel underneath, but not sure if this is actaully necessary.

Tool wise, youll need various torx drives and a star drive (either M10 or 12 from memory) for the screws 4,5,6,7 in the diagram. You do need to remove the outer door seal, which is glued to the door at the top. I used a trim tool to unclip the clips first before breaking the glue so that i didnt tear any of the rubber.

I would also get a few replacement door clips a s you will break one or two, and make sure that you "reset" the clips prior to refitting as they wont go through the mounting holes otherwise and make sure the seals are fully seated around the window.
