LED upgrade issue - rear high level brake light
Tried to change the four high level bulbs in the rear for some brighter LED bulbs but when testing them the outside 2 came on but the inner 2 did not, even when I reversed those 2 bulbs as suggested previously.
I'm guessing that the solution will involve resistors of some kind being used unless any of you have any other ideas? |
any ideas anyone?
|
Faulty bulbs? Have you tried swapping places? Possibly a bad connection? The resistors are only needed to prevent warning light about blown bulbs from coming on but I am not sure if centre braking light is even monitored.
|
Can you inject them and make them work?
Are you sure they are all in parallel? Basically if they get lecky in the correct direction they should fire OK. |
Did you solve the problem?
|
Nope never did but I might have another look at this during the coming week if I get the chance - will see what happens and report back +++

Hello mate
PM your address and I will send you some resistors to keep, bought plenty of them when doing led interior in my mate's tt on feston leds and 501s Cant seriously remember the values but could multiply if necessary, can easily send you a strip of 10 or 15 no problem At least you will have one possible cause out of the way. Ideally take a pen a paper and write down all the combination you did to test two pairs in all different allocations to see how each pair reacts and you will get the idea. Pen and paper useful when a lot of combinations to test. But get resistors in place first and see. What type of bulb fitting we are talking about? link? Cheers |
Thanks chap that's very kind, I'll take a look over the weekend and see if it's still the same story and take some pics of the bulbs. Sure I got them off ebay so I'll try and find the link and post it here. +++. Pm'd you an address for the resistors and much appreciated.

Will post them 1st class tomorrow, but you know what. I'm thinking if you won't need a 10w resistor like used on 501 side lights to stop the errors. This type, but one per pair first two from the top left http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/categor...resistor-fixes Aren't they P21W bulbs ?? Do you get errors on the dash when lights on and not functioning properly (2 on and 2 off bulbs) ?? I'm sure is doable to do the whole rear in leds. Only issue with bigger resistors is the obvious heat (orange ones from the link, even 10w), the small one I'm sending you still generate heat but not on the level that needs a heatsink. |
