Hi all,

Due to my interest in another member's car being for sale I was wondering if my own would sell, particularly if it was to an enthusiast on here. It's a bit of a spontaneous decision, unlike me at all, but any interest I have may determine whether I pursue buying IT's A8 4.2 which he's just put up for sale.

It's as the title of the thread, a 1999 (January) A8 4.2 QS PF in silver and as per the photos I posted on Saturday night. It has just over 115,000 miles on, so 35,000 in the last seven years I've owned it. It's been maintained regardless of cost (though not at a dealers, I'm not THAT pedantic ;)) and has been very little trouble over those seven years. I've had the gearbox oil and filter changed a couple of years ago, after being tipped off that that was a weakness on this model, and I've never had any issues with the drive anyway. I've had rocker box gaskets, breather pipes, bushes, bearings etc done as soon as any problem has been identified so it still drives very well indeed. The tyres were new last year so have done about 4000 miles, Dunlop Sport Maxx, a good choice in my opinion, hard wearing but give a smooth ride and decent handling. I changed the springs a few years ago when the originals seemed tired and I took the chance to lower it by 40mm which gives it a "squat" look compared to standard, but I'd imagine that would only be noticeable to the experienced A8 eye. The car is very clean inside and out which is partly due to the fact I was a car valet in a former life (many, many years ago) and old habits die hard. There are a few marks as would be expected of a 13 year old car but nothing at all significant. The wheels were refurbed about six years ago and have some marks but they still look very good overall, in fact compared to some of the stuff I've seen on-line they're immaculate!

I've looked at what type of money they bring on Auto Trader and have a figure in my mind that I'd like to get for it but I thought I'd put it up on here to see if there was any interest from people that know what it's all about. Therefore, feel free to ask questions if you're interested or suggest a suitable price that you feel it would bring if sold, I won't be offended by low offers but you will be ignored ;)

Finally, the plate has got to be a good selling point in my opinion. It was on the car when I bought it and can be sold with it but I would have no problem keeping it if you would wish to put your own on it.

As I said, just putting this out there for opinions and feedback, if I get none then I'll take it as a sign I should keep it till it passes away peacefully ;)
