Used Car Ads
Why do some people put almost the same pic in their advert. Two shots of one side taken about 2 foot apart, then a shot of the other side which is just a mirror image.
Some of the best ones are Oscar Goldman's in Autotrader - always the same format - brilliant. There is sometimes too much detail about the spec. Why say lecky windows, air con etc when it's standard on the vehicle? Just list the real extras like B&O, Adaptive cruise, ssolar sunroof etc. Am I just being a grumpy old git  |
Grumpy old git is a noble profession! :)
The other thing in used car ads are abbreviations that take an age to understand. I'm OK with T&T, FSH and so on, but I never did get "W.H.Y". Anyone know? |
I'd like to see them split the specification into 3 (maybe 4 if relevant) clear sections:
1. The basics, all cars of this type and vintage have this (e.g. ABS, PAS, electric windows, no spare whatever) 2. Standard for this model (e.g. 2002 my S8's always have .............) 3. Factory options above basic spec (e.g. Solar sunroof, Bose....) 4. Dealer/aftermarket options (e.g. 20" wheels, towbar, LPG...) |
W.H.Y is usually 'What Have You' - i.e. make me an offer on a trade-in, etc.

Nought wrong with being a Grumpy Old Git, its what keeps me sane+++

Anyone remember HRW being a worthwhile extra in car ads?

Anyone remember the heated rear screens that you could stick on yourself? Had one in my 1965 mini.
Then of course we could list other long-gone extras, like the vinyl roof (how retro is that?) and, as in my 1957 A35 van, the heater was often an extra! I predict a trip down memory lane..... |
