Am I going mad or is my beam pattern set up for Europe driving??
I pulled up in front of my garage last night and noticed that my headlights are aligned as such...
http://i50.tinypic.com/33z48lz.jpg The best way I can describe the beam pattern in text would be ___/ ___/ I've never noticed it before and I've never had any problems with visability but I just seem to remember having a clear \___ \___ pattern on every other car I've had! Am I going mad or am I right and they need to be switched back to UK mode?? I know the car has been for a trip to France and Belgium earlier this year so maybe they haven't been changed back? |
Yes, they are the opposite (mirror) of mine.

i think if you open the bonnet there is a clip that clicks them across back to uk mode +++

Sorry, didn't see your reply. Thanks though.
Excuse my incompetence, but would a cheapo machine such as this do all the electric trickery? I need to swat up on these VAG readers! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:AAQ:GB:1123 |

All you need is VCDS and then check if your lights are not in Tourist Mode (European driving) but it shouldn't happened just like tat without you fidling with it so very very strange as they are completely oposite.
If you have AFS DO NOT adjust by the white screws at the top of the headlight coz you wont achieve anything. First you will have to enter the adjustment mode, then set them correctly and then save it as your zero level. |
The guy I bought the car from lived in Belgium for a few months so switched the beam pattern to that side for the time he was over there, and just didn't bother switching it back on his return to the UK.
I've taken it to three different garages to see if they can plug the car in and switch them back, but all have had no luck so I assume I have a lever on the back of the headlights somewhere that switches the pattern back to UK driving. Had an MOT this week so had to buy some beam deflector stickers to just pass the test but getting the pattern back to UK driving is definitely next on my list to do, it's irritating me now. Will be replacing both headlight bulbs this weekend as one is becoming very pink so will have a look around for the lever. |
Is there a lever on some A8s ????
I do all this via VCDS (vag), its called tourist mode, if you switch that on you are legal to drive in Europe because you are changing the pattern. The two screws are just for vertical and horizontal adjustment, thats it. You can't change the patter with those screws. Have you got a VCDS?? |

My old S8 (PF) was like that - very handy when travelling to France - just open the bonnet and flick 2 levers, job done in 30 seconds or less. +++ My current FL with Bi-Xenon has no adjustment at all, the manual just says leave it alone when driving on the continent. |
