Homelink in UK D2's

I wonder if D2 in the UK was available with Homelink (integrated gate and garage door opener)

Found this A8 D2 sun visor in the US with Homelink buttons:

Ooh gadgets!! :D
Not sure about the D2's in the UK thought not but I'm sure I.T. Will know
I thought it was only on the D3's it came in as an option in the UK

I've never seen it in any UK D2 brochure, but that doesnt mean it couldnt have been sorted if you asked nicely I guess.

It would be worth checking ETKA to see if the visor with homelink was ever available on the Right hand side, which improves the chances of a UK retrofit +++

I can't find anything in my version of Etka for the D2 at all - tried all sorts of searches. Can find it for the D3.....

I did find a pest control system option

This is what it looks like anyway:

The part number given doesn't even get a hit in Etka which suggests its specific to North America

ETA - just realised the link above is for the same item as in the ebay auction lol. To be honest it looks a bit naff - think I'd rather have the little cigar lighter socket ones that Hormann do than the agro of trying to find somewhere to mount the unit behind the bumper. that actually transmits to the garage door. The D3 one on the other hand looks pretty cool mounted in the same panel as the sunroof controls

Adrian:

Things to consider:

1. This old Homelink system doesn't require the module in bumper. It basically connects to +12V power from sunroof and that's all. Self consistent thing.

http://forums.quattroworld.com/a8/threads/4697.phtml

2. You can get a small box for your Hormann door operator to make it 'understand' the Homelink's language.

http://www.garage-door-remotes.co.uk...cg-hormann.htm

3. US visor will most probably have different frequency than European visor, so purchasing in the US is not an option. Need to investigate frequencies of the unit and of the box for the hormann door.

In ETKA you should see 'cheap' and 'expensive' sun visors. Most probably expensive are the ones with homelink. On US cars the part number should be 4D0857551AJ25R or 4D0857551AD25R. European ETKA may not be aware of US parts.

Question: Do you actually have the little cigar lighter socket that Hormann manufactures? I wanted to get one for the Hormann door I'm planning to install. I'm concerned it is a bit too high for the the ashtray cover D2 to fully close. Have you tried that on your D2?

Hiya

I'm about to order a new Hormann garage door and was considering automation, even though my garage is in a block so would have to be one of the ridiculous price systems that run off a 12V supply as there's no mains power in the garage. What's finally put me off is that by going to a retractor mechanism suitable for automation, rather than the existing canopy setup I would lose some width on garage access, which I can't afford to do.

So I don't have one of the Hormann remotes, but they don't look any higher than the fag lighter it would replace? Am sure an installer could show you one or find a measurement to check :)

You can order "retractable plus" gear from Hormann, which is £48 extra. That gear was designed to never eat into clear space of 7 foot doors.

Will install myself :)
