Ford Crown Victoria looks like a A8 D2

I always thought that Ford Crown Victoria looks very similar to a D2.
Here is a old Motor Week video of the Panther version.

Oh dear.....no, no, no, no, no......

No disrespect, but.........really.....?! That's hideous.

Sorry. Each to his own.

I'm with Zip - the only thing they have in common is that both have alloy wheel options called "Ronal" - unless you've had several beers and look at the Victoria with a squint

....but then again, I used to think my Fiat Coupe looked a bit like an XK8 :o

A WHOLE 350hp from a supercharged 4.6litre V8! WOW! However do those incredible American automotive engineers manage such performance witchcraft!? And whilst managing to produce an engine with more pipes, wires and clutter than an explosion in a pipe cleaner factory. Startling. I don't think that if you dropped a handful of peanuts in at the top that any would make it out the bottom! And in such a dynamic lightweight form of 2 tonnes of svelte Detroit pig iron. Still aside from the fluffy steering and light feeling brakes it's quite the, erm, performance machine.

I kinda like it:). And it shares a bit with the D2 on the outside.

It sure as hell kick the S8 D2 from 0-60 with higher weight and 10bhp less, makes me wonder if our S8 D2' even pushes 300bhp at all.

Id hang this on the cool wall;)

Chevrolet Caprice

Goran 9th March 2013 04:21 PM

Yes the Caprice looks similar too, especially the rear lights.
I agree A8 D2 looks much better, I just thought there were some similarities, from the front at least.

Would you beleive it, there is one on ebay.

Its a bit of a mystery with the Crown Victoria/Panther 0-60, 350hp, 3908lbs (as per video), 5.2s to 60. 3908lbs = 1776kg
A8/S8 4.2 auto weighs 1865kg as per service book.
The Audi figure is definitely without driver, I know I weighed it (twice) :)
So either S8 is puttin out less hp than 360, or I suspect the 4wd auto gearbox has more losses. Also Panther supercharged V8 probably makes more torque low down.

so knowns are 5.2s, weight 1776+75 for driver = 1851kg
1851/5.2 = 355hp
gearbox loss factor is about 1
Maybe that engine makes more power than advertised.

For S8, according to mags, from new, 0-60 = 5.8s (probably with a really hard launch?)
1940/5.8 = 334
so gearbox loss factor is 334/360 = 0.93

I see some similarity with the front, but happily that's it. Audi evidently head a plan before building their car. Whereas Ford kind of made it up as they went along . A bit like the claimed performance figures

I've been in these Ford Crowns loads of times, and have to say they are much more comfortable than a D2, or any car I've been in - although the smooth American roads do help too. They're still sh1t, though.

Crown Vics aren't supercharged.....

Ever pulled the covers on an Audi 4.2? Tons of wires and hoses...

They also aren't marketed as performance cars. They're police cruisers and taxi cabs.
