New MoT Effective Tomorrow
 

The new MoT regime comes into force tomorrow. It seems (CAUTION:following info taken from a newspaper report) that it will include:

1. testing whether an array of dashboard lights are working properly, including seat belts, brake fluid and headlights.
2. Tyre pressure monitoring systems will also be checked.
3. Car seats must be able to move forward and backwards, to ensure that drivers can reach the pedals.
4. The electric motor fitted to many seats in modern cars will also be checked separately.
5. Car doors will have to open and close properly. The warning light, which warns that they have not been fully shut, will also be checked.
5. airbags, electronic stability controls, the speedometer and the catalytic converter will all be checked.

The VOSA website still has the test procedure at the 4th Edition (2011) version. The maximum rates are still £54.85 for private cars (according to the website) and the interval will still be 12 months as opposed to 24 months in other EU countries in which the implementation of the EU Directives (which have caused the new test requirement) has occurred.

All the pain, none of the gain. Let's hear it for the UK Government's implementation of EU directives!

Dont really disagree with any of it, some is common sense (Seat adjustment, warning lights etc) and surprised they dont already do it.

Cant really see the point of checking tyre pressure monitoring systems that arent mandatory fit on all cars.

Is this a bit like if you have spare wheel we'll check it, but if you hide it from us we'll ignore it and pass the car anyway.....
