Discovered great stuff today: Pre-FL switches fit perfectly in the dashboard blank provided.

This opens for me whole new scope :) I can have a switch to blink fog lights independently of headlights or parking lights....

No... better idea! When I finish installation of my Hormann garage doors I can put there a blinds switch and open garage doors: http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/garagedrinstall.html

Blinds switch pictogram actually looks like a garage door :)

Wish I had a garage door, I'd do that for sure.

No automated garage doors yet though... But we'll get there.

Great job and brilliant idea! +++

Is this where the headlight adjustment would have been?

Yep. Any Pre-FL button can be installed there.

Those pre-FL buttons are great -- better to touch than FL ones.

Hmmm....very interesting. I too have a Hormann door, but didn't know you could do this with the '8, but very keen to find out now. Then I can keep the two existing remotes with the other cars :-)

Have you opened this link http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/garagedrinstall.html ? It allows to remove button from any remote and connect the 8 button.

Hotmann supplies one button thing that you can insert into cigarette lighter. Organise a cigarette lighter for it somewhere under trim and connect 8 button with horman thing via methodology in the link.

A small writeup.

Buy Hormann BiSecur HSZ 1 BS cigarette lighter transmitter.
It comes with quality build-in lithium 3v battery, which will last many years
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1380999329

Turn head of transmitter and it will open. If it won't just help a bit with a thin flat screwdriver.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1380999329

On a small circuit there's a pushbutton.
Take sharp knife and pry it off. No even need to desolder.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1380999329

You will see two rectangular poles which the pushbutton connects together when pressed.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1380999329

Take your soldering iron and just solder two wires to those poles.
Now if you want to open/close/stop door you need to connect those wires together.

Case goes back on
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1380999329

Wires are fixed with a cable tie
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1380999329

The whole thing is wrapped with 3M insulation tape and then with Certoplast.
Final product is placed behind fuse panel in driver footrest. There's plenty of space there and good access when I'll need to change battery in 15 years.

Other end of wires are connected to pushbutton on dashboard. Works beautifully.

P.S. If you don't know what soldering iron is I'd suggest to purchase Hormann recessed radio transmitter called 'FUS 2' which has screwdriver terminals.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1381000453
It is designed for in-house installation to control garage doors from your home with a domestic light switch. It can run from a 9v battery and can control two doors.

Just connect button on your dash with FUS 2 terminals and you're done. FUS 2 is bigger than cigarette lighter transmitter and perhaps wasn't tested for car use by Hormann, but I'm sure it won't be a problem. Just find a place to hide it under the dash.
