No memory function for passenger belt height adjustment -- a bug or a feature?

Hello everyone,

I just discovered that seat memory function in my car keeps the passenger height belt adjustment **out of scope**.

Test

I used seat memory function to memorise several seat positions with buttons '1' and '2' and '3'. For each memory position I had different location of passenger belt height. Now when I recall positions from seat memory, everything moves to memorised position EXCEPT the belt height adjustment. Belt height for passenger just remains in the same position regardless of memory function. For driver side the same memory function works as intended.

Investigation:

I removed lower b-pillars and inspected motors. Both motors are equipped with memory senders. On passenger side wires from memory sender only go up to electrical connection to main loom of the car where they connect with nothing! On driver side wires from memory sender are properly connected.

Pictures! This is how belt height adjustment motor looks like in the lower b-pillar.

There are 5 wires there. Two wires are attached to the bottom of motor barrel to actually drive it and 3 wires (blue, red and yellow) are connected to memory sender, which sits under white plastic cover with green 'X'.

Now those 5 wires travel from motor to the main loom of the car and we have electrical connection there. In that connection only 2 wires which drive the motor are actually connected to car loom. The other 3 for the memory sender are hanging in the air!

On driver side everything is tip top. All 5 wires are connected.

Question:

Is this a bug or a feature? Could you guys with front memory seats check if passenger seat belt adjustment memory function works in your car?

Sorry mate i only have memory on the drivers side.

Dezzy, I didn't know some cars were available with only driver side seat memory.

Mine is drivers side only as well. I did not know there was option for passenger side memory. Maybe PF was driver only and FL both?

Passenger memory is pretty rare, to my knowledge. Mine certainly has driver memory only

Pretty sure passenger memory wasn't an option in the D2, but there will be some wiring bits there for the LHD/RHD options.

Anyone with passenger memory who can test it? :)

Passenger seat memory was available on later FL D2's, but is as suggested, very rare.

On drivers side, it does mirror, steering wheel and seatbelt height as well as seat position.

Interestingly, the steering wheel and mirrors have their own memory control modules.

The seatbelt button, and memory, is built into the seat, so one would expect the passenger side seatbelt to be memory adjusting too.

It is very unlike Audi to have wires going nowhere into a connector, so my immediate thought is that someone has changed the passenger side seatbelt motor assembly with one from a non-memory car, or it was some bizarre factory error. I dont have access to a passenger memory car to test, and ironically the one car I retrofitted passenger memory to, I didnt think to change the seatbelt motor, so it would definitely not have worked!

Not too hard to fix though if you seek perfection +++

I wonder if there is capacity in the seat memory module for those wires. I can snake those 3 wires anywhere in the car, the question is if I approach memory seat ECU with those wires will it have 3 empty terminals for passenger belt rheostat? I studied wiring diagrams I didn't find those 3 wires.

Where is seat memory ECU located by the way?

The thing is motor has positioning sensor (rheostat) inside it. I have opened it and checked where the wires go :) I have proper motor with memory function with wires going nowhere. When I purchased car there was no single evidence anywhere in the car that someone pried off trim or modified anything electrically.
