How is 'wood' trim held onto doors?

Hi all

As title really - how is the wood trim at the top of the rear doors held in place? Is it just push fit clip in or is there something fancy about it?

I've noticed an annoying rattle coming from the rear nearside which appears to be due to the wood trim coming away from the door panel at the rear edge.

Any options for repair or will I have to source a complete replacement? I'm quite ham-fised with trim so would like to know options before I make it worse!

Cheers

Adrian

Pretty sure it is actually metal and just a press fit, see: http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...im_removal.pdf

Thanks Andrew

Looks like there's some plastic clips that sit in the door trim panel (number 4 in the pics) which are the most likely cause of slippage. Can't imagine the metal bit has broken off the rear of the trim. May pop down to my local dealer tomorrow and see if they can order me some :)

I'd take it off first and have a look. ;)
I had my front strip off on the "old" car when working on the mirrors and IIRC they weren't even all there, but adjusting the clips carefully with pliers resulted in a tight fit on reassembly.
Failing that a bit of double-sided tape will secure it and reduce rattling.

Local dealer has 3 on the shelf (they're common to loads of models) so will try and pop it off later and see what I can do. I tried pushing it back into place and nothing was happening. Hope the old credit card as a trim tool will do the job....

have the same problem on the drivers door. will take a look this week, if all else fails then maybe hot glue to the rescue !

Well that was good advice from HP to have a look first!

With the trim sitting out from the panel I managed to get an adhesive spreader in under the trim and it very quickly released all the clips holding the trim in place.

Where the trim wasn't sitting flush there isn't a clip anyway - it covers a screw holding the door trim in place.

Got a trusty straight edge and it was quite obvious the trim was banana shaped so a little light tweaking by hand soon had it back to something approaching straight. Popped it back in and it's now sitting flush again. Will have to test over time whether the rattle has gone too.

I put a tiny bit of adhesive foam over the screw head to stop it rattling.
But I think my door panel had been taken off before as the screw head didn't look OEM and was quite bulky.
Glad you're sorted. +++
