Air con gas weight?
Hi all
Does anyone know where Audi quote the correct amount of gas and oil for a given vehicle's air-con system? Can't find anything in the handbook and don't recall spotting anything under the bonnet, although may not have looked close enough! Online resources seem to be mainly USA and I'm not convinced the systems are the same, plus they quote in ounces. Need to get the A6 system done before we go on hols on Saturday and I've heard too many horror stories about bodged refills to at least want to know the basics before I go near a refilling place. ElsaWin doesn't seem to quote the info, but I may be looking in the wrong place for it! I'm not that familiar with the layout for anything other than looking up basic information. Interestingly it states a very specific process post-refill which I very much doubt any garage will use! Says to rotate the compressor pulley by hand 10 turns, start the car with 'econ' on and allow idle to stabilise, then switch air-con on at lowest setting and leave the car idling for 10 mins. I recall my old Xsara getting this sort of treatment but never on any other car.... |
The boys at A8Parts will know mate as they charge systems up there. might be worth a call to Dave

The boys at A8Parts will know mate as they charge systems up there. IT will know too, he loves Dezzy's 8

Its defo under the bonnet. The label will mention R134a and a value, around 820g+-20g iirc for D2. D3 is more like 620g - Do check, dont take me hazy recollection for it.
Dezzys is more like 5 kg.... :D |
Ian, do you remember what viscosity of PAG oil is used in D2? You refilled during annual meet, so you should know :) :) :)

Cheers folks - will have a proper look tomorrow. Thought there might be a generic web site for all models someone would have bookmarked :)
Fitted an aero style rear wiper on the A6 this evening using Touran parts - much better than the original which juddered over the screen no matter how clean/wet it was! |
I can have a look on my autodata, bosch data and tolerance data programs if you give me enough spec detail etc on the actual model age and engine of the car Adrian +++

Hi Neil
It's a 2004/04 A6 quattro Sport Avant 3.0 petrol Is that enough info or need engine code too? Cheers Adrian |
Well got it done this morning - sticker with weights of gas and oil was on the underside of the bonnet, up near the hinges, so took a bit of spotting!
Was worth doing - stickers says 550g +50 for gas and 22cc oil The machine pulled out 250g of gas, so that was pretty low. Also pulled 13cc of oil Now filled up with 575g of gas, 23cc oil and 10cc of UV additive in case it springs a leak! |
Interesting, mine was there too, above the central air intake. Says 750+50g though of R134a.
And I thought it also said 250cc of PAG oil in the original fill, though you normally only replace what comes out when servicing! This web site is useful to confirm how much of what you need and agrees with the above: http://www.idqusa.com/lspt.php |
