Help!!

Came back from two weeks holidays to find my FL S8 (D2) completely dead electrically.

Drivers door opened on the remote, but alarm sounded (weakly) and car wont start.

Cant unlock the boot door to charge it.

Looked on here and found advice to connect charger positive to batt lead on pass side kick panel. Tried it on thick (batt?) cable and on the red connector to its left. In both cases relays started chattering, and I grew afraid of damaging the car. Lights on dash did come on though.

What to do?

Why can't you get into the boot? Is the lock seized?

Simon Wallwork 15th July 2013 07:55 PM

I can push a key in ok, but it wont turn.

I have all the keys. Two ignition, a service key and a plastic one.

It might well be seized. I never use the key in the boot lock.

There's no vacuum to operate the 3 passenger doors either.

Try lubing the lock before going too much further - you should be able to get in with the key to either charge or replace the battery

We've just come back after 2 weeks as well and mine fired up straight away, so prob a duff battery

Hi Adrian

Well. lacking a better idea, I put the charger on the terminal to the left of the battery one.

After a bit, the clicking stopped and I was able to unlock the whole car with the remote.

Batt now on charge. I was completely flaaaaaat., thus the relay clicking.

Something must have been left on I think- like you, I've left mine weeks before with no issues. Might be a duff batt'y. Hope not.

Good stuff :)

If it does need a new battery try Euro Car Parts for a Bosch with 5 yr warranty but only buy if you have a discount code for 25% off - pm me if needed and can send you one to try

Other option is TPS just to see what a genuine one could cost - at least we don't have to code batteries to the car lol

Thanks.

Strangely, I just tried the car after about two hours of charging.

It cranked, but only for about one second before terminal clicking noises indicated battery exhaustion.

I'll leave it buzzing overnight, but that's not the behaviour of a healthy car battery.

Methinks my batt might be 'Donald Duck'd' :-(

After another couple of hours charging (four, total) she burst into life, and is purring like a kitten.

I love these cars.

My S8 make me happy, like no other street car.

It was me that had the same problem, and had to put jump leads down there to get in the boot as i have a duff lock. Glad you got it sorted. Mine turned out to be the interior lights were on both main and drivers map light sat outside of work for 2 days and nowt. I have my work bag on the passenger seat and when grabbing my bag and getting out the car all in one motion i must have hit the buttons.
It was the last thing i'd have looked for had i not noticed it when reaching in for something.

For those with boot lock problems, I'm sure I have a boot lock barrel and key in the garage. Yours for postage costs if you want it. Just PM me an address and I'll sort it at the weekend
