MOT tomorrow morning

At 10am - fingers crossed!

Just popped the current MOT in the glovebox and have done 5,600 miles this year

Will report back with the result tomorrow! Will be interesting to see if any of the odd advisories carry over from last year

PsYcHe 4th September 2013 07:57 PM

Advisories.. they're a funny creature.. garage down the road advised on bushes in the XC90 3 years in a row, but when I asked them to check them and replace any that were knackered at the recent service they were all fine...

Mine had new upper arms on the front as the inner bushes were splitting. Also had weaping diff and gearbox seal, but the level never drops - it's just the mearest hint of moisture which I think they all do anyway. Tyres are the big potential expense out of this....

Can't recall if there was anything else - I swear stuff only appears more than once if they can see it hasn't been changed since the last one and it was on it last year!

i had an advisory that the rear seat belt could not be tested

because i left a baby car seat in there>

so moral is if your belts dont work just put a car seat in and they cant fail you on it

Yup.. and if your spare is gubbed, leave stuff in as they can't move it to check :)

Just leave the spare at home... There is no requirement to have one, only it must be good if present +++

I always wait in tha garage while they do MOT and they never even opened the boot to check for spare.

It failed :-(

2 new rear tyres required - apparently cords showing and a cut through the cords too. Not sure how they're seeing that given off the car I can't see cords, but will happily accept they are well past their best before date!

2 new Michelin Super Sports ordered for collection tomorrow (£460 total) then off to wheel refurb place to give them the dodgiest wheel, which I've already swapped for the good but old spare, and one of the new tyres. I'll get them to fit the other brand new tyre onto the car so I can then run it 2 doors down and get my MOT certificate!

Unfortunately they couldn't fit me in for a wheel refurb until 4th October by which time the MOT has expired, never mind the issues of driving around knowing it's failed and being potentially liable for 3 points and up to £1000 fine per tyre.....

Will have to accept the extra cost of having the tyre swapped twice.

Interesting thing about the tyre prices - Camskill get their stock from Protyre/Micheldever hence why they couldn't beat the price Protyre were able to offer me for supply only. My wheel refurb guys get their stock elsewhere and the cost to them is more than Protyre will supply for!

Stocks have dropped dramatically - they had 8 in stock when I first enquired, now down to 3 and Camskill reckon you'll struggle to get any until after the winter as they're busy making winter tyres at the moment. Obviously I've had 2 of those so there's 1 left......

The Michelin Pilot Super Sports are a bit lively in the wet, the dry grip is fantastic.
