Dash Warning Lights NOT coming on

Hi,

Just looking for some advice as to where to start with these:

The windscreen washer warning has never come on in my car and, while I can understandably live with that okay, now my 'oil level low' warning lamp doesn't come on. I know that it should come on regularly because my car drinks oil almost as much as it does petrol. (That's a topic for another thread though - suspect valve stem seals and have had two broken cats recently . . . .) It has been coming on to warn me of low oil until very recently.

Even more strange is that the oil level warning now doesn't feature on the dash when I press the 'check' button. It used to. The windscreen washer warning DOES at least feature as part of the check cycle.

I know I can live with both of these via regular manual checks but I'd like to get to the bottom of the issue in case there are other warnings which I'm not getting but should be.

Thanks.

If the other warnings are working then perhaps even as simple as the dash warning bulbs have gone? Oil level sender units do go but if the check button is now not working and it did do for oil level then perhaps both have now gone?

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Mine is a FL model so the warning signs appear in the top section as yellow 'dot-matrix' images. I think that's different to PF where there are individual bulbs for each warning in the bottom grid of indicators? So, on that basis (if I'm correct about PF / FL), it can't be as simple as just bulbs?

Seems strange that the car isn't even thinking to make the oil level part of the check sequence yet the washer level warning is despite it being known to be faulty . . . . .

Any ideas?

PF is the same showing warning lights on DIS but there was no oil level warning on PF, only oil pressure. Maybe a coding issue for instrument cluster as it's possible some engines might had oil level sensors while others did not.

As for windscreen washer lever then it must be either level sensor or you never got that low on the level for it to show warning.

Hi ainarssems,

I've definitely got an oil level warning indicator on DIS. It used to work. Doesn't any longer . . . . . . .

I meant maybe in some mysterious way instrument cluster coding changed so it now thinks it's got different engine without oil level sensor

I had a FL D2 with a 4.2 engine where the sensor just didnt work. I think it was a common-ish fault. The sensor is in the bottom of the engine sump iirc, but when it fails, it just shows everything ok rather than all fail which is a bit backwards....
