Boot won't lock!
Hi all.
Very recently, my boot has decided it no longer wants to lock! It wont lock when the boot is manually closed, or electrically closed. Nor will it lock when the car is locked via keyfob locking or keyless handle locking. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris |
Hi Chris
Sounds like maybe the lock mechanism itself is either jammed or broken - talk to A8 parts for a replacement if you need one +++ |
Does it makes any noise, anything??
Check connection first, play with it a little, you really never know. Is there a separate fuse for the boot lid lock ?? |
Is there a keyhole next to the numberplate light?
What happens with that? |
There is one, but if there is no power boot wont lock.
I've had this when original battery just died and I've lost power completely so if he has no power going to the lock then I assume it will be exactly same, it wont operate/lock. Thats stupid btw |
It's a common fault, when the temperature drops.Other owners have experienced it!sounds odd,but that's the way it is.
Mine does it,all I do is spray a silicone spray or WD40 into the slam panel opening and after a couple of attempts, the lock pulls the lid down, you can hear it working. Have sprayed the lock in the lid as well, just incase. Hope it helps+++ |
Very interesting, I've never experienced anything like it and car been outside through every harsh winter - it won't fit in the garage :)
This could be related to the way cars are serviced, I always do long life service and I've seen it myself they spray proper lubricants everywhere. |
Any luck with mending the boot power mate???

I have had the same problem for the last couple of winters running. No amount of WD40 works for me, but as soon as the ambient temp goes above circa, 10deg C, it starts working perfectly. I may sell the car soon, so need to find a proper fix. Any thoughts?

I would start from finding out what lubricant Audi is using during longlife service (same probably as the standard service) on your locks and hinges.
I do a longlife service almost every year since day one, not because I have to, but because I'm stupid ;) We all going through pretty much same winters and I never had issue with the lock. So it could be a lubricant or certain batch of locks which cause this issues. Lubricant is cheaper than lock so I would start from it ;) |
