D2 alloys on D3
Here is a question for you.
My potential replacement for the D2 (2004 prefacelift D3) has 19" wheels and tyres. The tyres have only 2-3mm of tread on two of them. My current D2 has 18" RS6 wheels (18x8 ET42) and the tyres have 5mm at least all round. The tyre size fitted is standard D2 size. Now can I take the 19 inch wheels off the D3 and swap the 18s on from the D2? I prefer the 18s over the 19s anyway, so can it be done? |
what size are the tyres on each Manny?
sounds like it shouldn't be a problem as the D2 can take 20" no problems and the D3 has has 18's fitted so would need to check brake clearances and overall rolling radius's and ET's really. If you post them I can check everything except brake caliper clearances which really needs a more D3-ey person to comment on the 18" wheels, my gut feeling is that they should be ok. |
Should be OK for clearance, and as long as the offsets are OK, you're good to go..

Tyres on the D3 are 255/40 19 on standard multispoke (lots) alloys 8.5J x 19 ET45
Tyres on the D2 are 245/45? 18. (the standard size) on a 18x8 ET42 wheel (5x112 PCD) |

Looks like they are pretty similar overall so you just need to check the internal clearance by comparing the caliper sizes on current and new cars and the current clearance to make sure they will be clear but I'd bet on them being fine Manny |
Neil, the 19s are ET45 whereas the 18s are ET42. Both are ET42 in the picture above.

Certainly looks doable and would save having to buy tyres in expensive 19 size in the not to distant future. The 19s will have to live on the D2, and may well end up sold on it. The D2 will end up sitting outside the house, declared SORN and unloved.
