Suspension noises
 

Hi folks.
The only thing occasionally spoiling the otherwise serene calm of my 8 is, I think only on the offside front, the odd crunching / crashing sounds, although only really on speed bumps / larger potholes etc. The car has been checked over and other than the usual wear on some of the bushes, no issues were obvious. I have only been running the car on "dynamic" setting to date.

Today, and on reading other threads re air suspension noises etc, I put the car into both "lift", and "comfort" modes. The car seems to go up and down without undue fuss so all seems to be working correctly. What I did notice however, although it was a relatively short drive, is that the o/s front suspension crunch seems not to occur when in these higher modes.

Given the above, does anyone have any idea as to the likely suspects / culprit of the noises when in dynamic? It seems chasing suspension noises can be a long and expensive process for what I've read.

you haven't got an arch liner thats dropped a bit etc so that the trim rubs when its on full suspension travel, but only when its lower?

That's a very good suggestion. Hadn't thought of the simple solution! I have to say it doesn't sound like that kind of noise, but certainly worth a good poke about to check. Thanks

I may have spoken too soon based on the brief run. The noises remain whatever setting suspension is on. Any further thoughts welcome. May get the wheel off to have a good poke about, but the difficulty is obviously recreating the issue with the car stationary!

Could also be that the 'usual wear' might be fine for lesser vehicles, but the '8 is transmitting the noise through the car.

Might get it up on some axle stands take the wheels off and have a good poke about.

Dont forget to engage jack mode before raising the car, otherwise it will attempt to self level as you jack up.

Try looking at the inner top arm bushes with a bright torch.
You don't need to jack the car, just put in lit mode and getting a helper to turn the steering can help the metal arm move to reveal more bush. They usually crack circumferentially.
