Travel Pilot DX Disc
Picked up a 2002 A8 3.7 today and the Navigation Plus is saying the disc is defective.
Anyone got one kicking around ? |
Adrian_E is your man. ;)
Though my experience is that these things can be a bit random. Is this an OEM disk or a "backup". |
if its an original CD, then the chances are its not the disc but the drive itself. I had to disassemble the RNS-D in my D2 and clean the lens, its been perfect ever since. The CD spends its entire life in the drive, so its not going to be fingerprints or scratches but dust and grime on the laser for 12 years of use.
There is a guide I found online and its linked to in the D2 Satnav sticky. |
I went round the lens-cleaning route but it didn't do much TBH.
What year is the CD? Newer ones are trickier to read due to copy protection changes. Around 2002/3 should be problem-free. ScottB5 on here has various RNS bits, I bought a replacement GPS section (has the drive in it) from him a few months back, they're dead easy to swap over (few screws and one plug). But I'd do the cleaning first, then try another CD just in case that is damaged. If you can't get one anywhere local/easier I've got a spare backup copy (made myself) of the 2003/4 DX CD that I can post you. I know it works because I was using it until I acquired the latest 2013 version (from Adrian_E). |
This is the lens cleaning thread.

Thanks for all the replies.
it appears there may not be a disc in the drive at all. When I try to eject, it tells me to insert a disc |

I suggest you get some release keys, move the RNS forward and carefully lever the top plate off. It's just a friction fit between lots of lugs around the edge and working round with a small flat-bladed screwdriver will have it off in no time. Then you'll see inside enough to check if there's a CD and assist the eject movement. |
