White smoke on tickover
Evening, just after some views on the below.
Test drove and A8 last week 4.2 petrol lpg d3, on tickover after a test drive engine at normal operating temperature there was white smoke coming out of both exhausts. Would this be cause for concern? could this be related to the lpg system? |
If it hadn't been driven for a while or only done small trips it could be a build up of condensation in the exhaust, mine, a 3.0tdi had the same issue when I got it back after a test drive, one way is to cup the White smoke and pull it towards your face and have a sniff, if it doesn't smell chemically or fuellie then it should be fine, a good blast getting the exhaust nice and hot usually sorts the problem of condensation, I do a lot of 2 hour motorway journeys and mine disappeared within a couple of days, it'll still puff out a bit of condensation when cold but will be clear once upto temp.

I run an LPG D3 and you will get more visible exhaust from the LPG especially in this colder weather. The system doesn't even kick in until the engine has heated up so initially you're getting some exhaust smoke from the petrol running through a cold and/or damp exhaust system and then a lesser thick but still visible gas exiting the exhaust after the LPG has clicked into play +++
