Pheaton 8 pot Brembos?
Hi folks
I'm sure I've asked this before but not got a definitive answer, so I'll try in a thread of its own and see what happens! There seems to be a few set of 8 pot Brembo calipers removed from Pheatons which look like they use a similar brake disc to the B7 RS4. They'll obviously fit under 20s all day long and would potentially be a worthwhile upgrade. Not sure if they're identical to the Bentley/W12 calipers or not? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/DSC00435.jpg Off the car they look like this: https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/...63625140_o.jpg I've never really paid much attention to how the factory Brembos on my S8 are mounted, but are the mounting points in the same axis, or out by 90 degrees? I seem to remember there's a Birmingham based company that will make up CNC brackets if they aren't a straight fit but I can't recall their details if I would need brackets. The brakes don't give great confidence if you're pressing on, even though mine has OEM discs and pads, and can feel a bit under-braked for the weight of the car at times. It's about the only criticism I have of the car dynamically apart from the gearing. Adrian |
I've got a brand new set of 8 pot Brembos waiting to go on mine. I'll take some photos on and off the disc when I get a minute so you can compare.

Cheers - would be interesting to see how they marry up and how much effort/fabrication is needed :)

They look very similar to the B7 RS4 8 pots I have on my FL S8. I build a set of spacer adapters from 12 mm plate and I'm in the process of getting proper mounts fabricated. Want some?

Thanks Mike - I have a few other things to spend money on before I get in to brake upgrades, but obviously buying the calipers and discs is a fairly substantial investment and they're bound to need a refurb and paint before fitting.
Not sure the RS4 calipers are mounted the same as the Phaeton as I recall that if you want to use the plain Phaeton discs on an RS4 you have to swap the bells to get the alignment right? It sounds like they're not going to be a million miles away from fitting so worth finding some. There's a couple of sets on one of the other Audi forums at about £400-450 but they look well used. There was a member on here selling some a while back but funds were lacking at the time.... Need to measure my current discs and see how much life they have left in them as it's probably something I'll look to do when the current brakes need replacing. Adrian |
Is this a bolt-on modification?
|
No, it needs an adapter fabricating. Per post #4, on an FL S8 with Brembos its basically a flat plate since they are both radial mount calipers.
Your A8 has axial mount calipers so you will need a right-angle bracket to fit them. It might be worth looking in to whether anyone has created a bracket to use these calipers on a B5 S4 or C5 S6. If so they will be close but will still need modification as the rotor offset is unique on the D2. |
Mikki thanks!
I will surely go the easiest way and use the complete D3 brake system for front and rear and hope that it will also fit my winter wheels set, which is 17 inch  Fron ist a bolt-on fit, and adapter for the rear (which I will acquire soon!) |
Pushing it with 365mm inside 17s! Good luck :)
How will you handle the electronic handbrake on the D3 rear calipers? |
