A8 engine remap

Hey there,

Really not sure if this should be here or down below so i have added it here. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I have a silly question but is it possible to remap an A8 to boost the BHP? If so what would the likely power increase be?

I was talking to a bloke recently who said he has a face-lifted S8 with 450 BHP and was wondering if this was even possible?

Cheers

I know James (mkoneman) was looking into this last year.
I believe he spoke to a couple companies - he might be able to give you some more info

There's not a great deal you can do with remapping as such, maybe 10-15 HP with a good tune-up.

Do get more, you're looking at serious dough on cats, exhausts, cams, maybe pistons and valves.

There are guys out there who have fitted superchargers to their S8s, the most 'famous' being a guy in Brazil, but I can't find any links at the minute.

I think Mike's done a fair bit of looking into this.

Depending on what you're looking for, you might be cheaper swapping yours for a Diseasel V8 D3 and chipping it up, torque-tastic. That was my plan until I couldn't find a decent one in my price range without comedy mileage. :D

Thanks guys,

So I’m wondering if this guy actually has 450BHP at all. He has a 2000 D2 S8 but it doesn't look like it has anything special on it but I could be wrong.

As for me I’ve "only" got a straight 4.2 and if re-mapping is only going to yield 10-15 more BHP is it hardly worth it.

Might be better to spend the money on something else.

Cheers

For my two penneth, getting the power up on a D2 is a tricky, and more importantly expensive job...

Consider taking a leaf out of Botangs book, and getting the weight down instead...

Electric rear seats, bose, blinds, LPG tanks, Towbars, boot full of stuff, solar panels, airbags, twin pane glass - all adds weight.

For what it costs to get 10/15bhp more out of it, you could get the equivelent 'performance gain' by making it lighter..

It would be interesting to see the weight difference between a 'fully loaded' D2, and one with less spec...

Time to compare build stickers everyone ? :D

Well then I’ve got a lardy one so  cos I’ve got all of those apart from the towbar and LPG tank.

Not too mention the not so slight occupant in the drivers seat, I must be worth at least 40 BHP... :-(

Hi There,

Why more power (apart from the Tim Allen style comedy) ???

The 0-60 is pretty good, the 30-100 is awesome. The power range is great. The overtaking is already incredable - Particularly if you drop gears and do it right.

I always found this with some of my older cars that were far less powerful, its more the way you drive than the power you have.

More power well i suppose i was just checking. If it was going to be an "easy" fix then why not.

Based on the feedback to date i think i'll give a miss.

Cheers

As stated above, you might squeeze a bit more out with a freer flowing exhaust and a remap (possibly even 20bhp) but the only way to get up to the dizzy heights of 450bhp would be supercharging/turbocharging.

Weight saving would be a more economic way to go, but would lose of lot of the 8 'charm' IMHO.

Do it right and create an RS8 by dropping a (C5) RS6 lump in there! +++
