Phone removal ???

Hi There,

My arm rest has a phone holder in it. I've already taken off the cradle, but there is a sprung loaded platform which i'd also like to loose....as much that it amuses pasengers when they go whats in here (lift) and have a load of lpg recipts fly over the car, its getting a pain !

Plus i'd like to put my ipod in there !

Ta,
Lee

Refresh us as to what year your car is? There were a few different designs. Either way, removal isn't too tricky, you just need to take the armrest apart... 20 min job tops.

The trick to getting inside the armrest is the plastic covers on either side of each armrest.

You can prize off the plastic sides easily, and under there (from memory) is a selection of small torx that hold the plastic 'trays' inside the armrest. Obviously you only need to remove the one on the passenger side, which holds the phone cradle.

Once the whole tray comes out, it becomes fairly obvious how you can go about butchering the tray to get rid of the phone mechanism. It is a special tray for the phone stuff though, so you'll not be able to get a nice flat bottom like in the drivers side, but it will certainly do for larger items, drink bottles etc

Hi There,

Never quite got round to doing this and i really don't see why as it took me under 30mins.

Removed the side covers with an old letter opener. Blunt and smooth and strong. Inserted near the back and gently pryed the three press fit studs off with ease.

Reclined the passenger seat to get to one of the torq screws, but 4 screws (2 per side) and the tray lifted out with a little effort. The cable hole has a push fit over gromit thing.

Once out, 6 small torqs screws and thats it. Removed the long strip and trigger mechanism as well, which just slid out. Leaves a few small holes in the tray which woried me for a second, but placing the tray back and this were covered at the bottom. Put back together noting the locating lug on the over gromit. Pressing the sides back on.

Loads more space and my stuff isn't flung over the car when its opened.

Now onto running my stereo's USB and IPOD connector into there. There is even a handy hole :)

Think i'll bin the bits as the cradle and cable and stuff is for such an old phone that resale is less than zero !

cya,
Lee
