SAI delete cost (and post cat lambdas)
I had my SAI pump, solenoid, and post-cat lambdas coded out by MRC whilst keeping the factory fuel maps. The price of this was £150 + vat, very reasonable in my opinion considering the price of a new SAI pump and new lambdas.
MRC also removed my SAI and blocked off the hole where they connect to the engine block. The price of this was £68 + vat. Alternatively you can easily do this yourself. I am very pleased its gone and no more CEL or error codes related to SAI. |
Plastic Welding attempt
5 Attachment(s)
To complete the SAI delete, I thought I should close the holes in the airbox left by the air pump motor and hose. To avoid sucking in warm engine bay air.
I decided, rather than glue, I would have a go at plastic welding. Well it didn't quite turn out as I hoped, it was very messy, probably because the nozzle is not meant for such small welds. Anyway the holes are closed thats the main thing. What exactly is the purpose of the secondary air intake? Is it for economy or torque?

Clean up emissions and protect the catalyst during the initial period after starting.

Exactly as HP says. Have a look at the back of your engine it feeds directly into bored out holes in each side of the block which links up with all the exhaust ports just before the headers. Therefore all it does is blow fresh air directly into the exhaust only during start up.

Is there any block-off kit availible somewhere?

I bought this one from JHM, but I forgot to give it to MRC when they were working on the car, so they used what they usually use, a ball bearing into each port. However bloc-off kit is better in case you ever want to put the SAI back on.
I wont. http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalo...v8-p-1028.html |
