Cleaning Platinum Rear Parcel Shelf - advice please!

Hi,

Took delivery of my lovely rear platinum parcel shelf with blind from A8 Parts yesterday. Super quick, next day, free delivery as always!

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to use to give it a good scrub as it's got some inevitable 2nd hand dirty marks on it. The material covering the shelf is very thin and seems like it won't be terribly colourfast so I'm reluctant to just dive in and start scrubbing with carpet cleaner / Fairy Liquid etc.

Any advice, please?

Cheers, Gregor.

Is it covered in Alcantara?

It's covered in a kind of rough cloth. Rough as opposed to the smooth, furry material found on the bottom of the door cards, for example.

Is that Alcantara?

Doesn't sound like it. Alcantara is almost like suede leather to the touch but synthetic, so "furry" might describe it especially if it's been mistreated and "bobbled" as some of mine has :( .

No, it's not Alcantara then. I know the stuff you mean as that's what I was referring to as the smooth (but furry) hide-like material on the door cards.

So, how do I clean this rougher material without damaging it? Any ideas?

Is it like these photos? If so, I'd try a foam upholstery cleaner on a bit that won't show first, but I've found the upholstery pretty durable to cleaning on the whole

Yes, that's the very stuff. Thanks.

Any particular brand to look for?

We probably all have our favourites, but I'd avoid Turtle Wax, Halfords or any other 'own brand' stuff and go for a quailty brand with lint free cloths and/or microfibre sponges to wipe off.

I've never cleaned mine, but I had an audi with similar coloured cloth seats a while ago and the problem was 'tide marks' when it dried. But I think that may have been aggravated by the foam underneath.

As I said, try a bit that won't show first.
