New Key

I've misplaced one of my keys.

What's the process for getting a replacement key? 2011 A8 3.0 SE. Do I need to buy one from Audi? (ouch)

Not sure what the official name of it is, but basically the doors unlock by pressing the unlock button on the fob, not by proximity.

I've had a look online and there seem to be lots of second hand fobs, but I don't think that is wise, especially if you need use the key if the batteries dead. So I'm after a new key fob please.

You may be lucky.. but I think you'll end up having to go to Audi for a D4.

I'll give them a call ... Let's see what the pricing supercomputer says.

£166 for the Key + VAT
£56 to programme it -- This includes being present when the key is ordered with the V5 and ID.

£220 ... :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

That is insane.

Off on a proper search for that other key ....

Doesn't sound too outrageous to be honest, compared to the prices of keys for other cars.

Got any relevant insurance cover? ;)

A decent remote key for my antique Ford Focus is around £80 from a reputable aftermarket supplier (more from Ford), plus programming which I happen to be able to do myself.

^ what he said ^

£220 is a bargain compared to some others which can be £400-500

Most don't, but some insurers do offer key cover, but probably not worth harming any NCD for £220.

Ok Key has appeared +++ My son was playing a practical joke and hid my key. When I didn't bite he forgot he had hidden it.

He asked my why I didn't notice, uh ... I went and used the spare?

Anyway case closed on this one ...

Good news on the outcome, how old is your son?
