External temperature display

Can you adjust/calibrate this with VagCom? Mine always seems to show a degree or two higher than the 'real' outside temperature.

Is it the sun toasting the bumper or maybe heat soak from the rad if you aren't moving quick enough to be getting enough ambient air around it? It might be reading right for the temperature it is actually at? Mine usually shows a couple of degrees too high if I start it up with a warm engine but a couple of miles of driving with air flow around it and it drops to where it should be.

What are you comparing it with? How do you know that THATs correct? It would be interesting to find out how/if the vehicle sensor was calibrated and what is the tolerance of the sensor.

Is there just the one air temp sensor? ie. G42 - Air Intake Temperature Sensor?

B@fink 28th July 2014 08:05 PM

Not sure that's the one, I think that one is the engine air intake temperature? The dash temperature is fed from a sensor behind the bumper and is purely just for the dash reading, nothing to do with the running coggins.

The sensor for the internal temperature display is mounted down behind one of the lower foglight grills and is IIRC different to the one used by the ECU to determine the air temperature.

 Maybe that's what Jim cant grasp. Temperature gauge says 28decC and the car is in the west of Scotland: Does not compute!!

Shall I take the answer to be 'no' then?
