OEM spark plugs - D2 S8?
I know I'm being dippy, but can someone tell me the exact make and model of oem or audi recommended plugs please. Audi want £220 to change mine
Cheers Zip |
I don't think there is one make, it will change depending who Audi or VW had contract with at the time of manufacturing. So Bosch might be making the part for couple years, then they get better deal with Beru and who will be making the same part number for couple of years, then they can change it to somebody else or switch back to Bosch. Same with many other parts like brake pads depending of year of manufacturing the same part number can be made.

Should be Bosch Platinum for a facelift S8 (unless there are some new better ones that replaced them recently?)
FGR6KQE 101000054AD They should look like this: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8275 If I remember correctly several good independents recommend these OEM plugs too, some other makes like NGK may run hot. Hope I'm not spreading any bad rumours. |
Those are not Platinum

Go to local TPS and get them to look it up for you - they should have them on the shelf to confirm what you are getting in the part numbered box :)

Buy genuine spark plus from TPS our Audi, but change them yourself. You'll need a basic torque wrench and some basic tools. All that can be purchased from Halfords. All torques are documented in ELSA. Changing plugs is an enjoyable work.

For ease:
AQH, AVP, AYS and BCS engine codes use 101 000 054AD plugs made by Bosch according to Etka and are currently £15.89 incl VAT each - my last plug change 4 years ago quoted them at about £12 each. For AQG, AQF, ARU, AKC, AUW and AVN engine codes it's 101 905 615A at £15.43 each ElsaWin doesn't go into any detail on a plug change, but does state that the plugs should be torqued to 30Nm ElseWin Checking ignition system Technical data for ignition system Engine code letters AQF 4.2 L 228 KW / AUW 4.2 L 228 KW ARU 4.2 L 175 KW / AVN 4.2 L 175 KW AQG 3.7 L 191 KW / AKC 3.7 L 191 KW AQH 4.2 L 265 KW / AVP 4.2 L 265 KW Ignition timing is determined by the control unit. Ignition timing cannot be adjusted. Ignition system Individual coil system with 8 ignition coils connected directly to spark plugs via spark plug connectors (common component ignition coil and performance output stage). Spark plugs Spare part number and manufacturer description see spare part catalogue Tightening torque 30 Nm Firing order 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 ETA: According to Bosch site, the recommended plugs are FGR6KQE which Euro Car Parts list under 'OE quality spark plug' with a Bosch picture, but then state may not be the brand supplied. Be worth ringing and asking if they are that part number and Bosch as they're quoted at £6.72 each incl VAT! |
Thanks for your help, gents. I'll let you know what I end up with...

OEM from TPS are now £17 each before any discount!
Euro car parts have the same Bosch parts (although my reg based search brought up the wrong ones!) for £7.39 each and this weekend with an extra 20% off I've bagged a set of 8 for less than £48! Search for ECP part number 408330080 to find the right ones Almost £90 difference  |
Tempting at those prices. Looking at them a bit, I am worried, why are the ECP plugs with brass thread in the picture when genuine Bosch ones seem to have a silvery (Nickel coated?) steel thread.
