Car Phone SMS

I was looking through a site that I posted up here http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8849 and came across this image.

I got the phone kit in the car and it all works fine but I've never see anything for text messages.
I've also never seen anything for email or internet before.

Is this something that was available on the D3?
If it was what was needed for it to work?

One or two more extras for Daviesbike?

i have the word TEXT i think on mine in place of the images SMS, it works as long as you connect the phone using SAP

Yes. I have MMI 3G high and it connects through SAP to my phone and then you can send and receive text messages on the MMI screen. Works really well when I use rSAP for Android rather than the sh1tty Android BT stack.

I have the onboard motorola handset and my O2 PAYG sim card in the car recieves text messages just fine, mine says SMS as per the image above.

Scott, if your at ADI you can have a play and see what it does.

That is fantastic. So you can actually read the text from the MMI screen??

I wanted to go to ADI but its my mates stag doo so I can't really.
I keep arranging to go and then remember its his stag doo.
Its really bad that I keep forgetting lol.

Its that rSAP thing again.
Am I right in thinking that rSAP was only part of the PFL A8s?

I don't really need SMS on the MMI but it be cool thing to add if its just a box swap.

What about the email/Internet buttons?

Yes. You can open the texts and read them on the screen and there is a little envelope symbol when you get a SMS where the phone signal indicator is at the bottom centre of MMI screen.

You can also reply to texts or send an SMS, but you are limited to the message templates that are in the MMI system. I guess this is so you're not trying to type messages as you drive. It's really good. I use it a lot.

rSAP is an App for Android for their SAP enabled phones. It costs about £6 I think, but it is SO worth it. The standard Android BT stack is useless and just crashes the whole thing and it just doesn't work properly.

SAP is really good as it uses the car's aerial and you get a much better signal. All that is used on the mobile phone is the SIM and the BT connection.

I love it.

If the Stag do is Saturday night you could always come to ADI and leave early/mid pm to get back - the majority of the show is morning and early afternoon anyway +++

it does have the benefit of better signal, but there can be downsides, if you use a blackberry a i have to for example, SAP shuts of the handset and so you dont get any mail until you switch the car off, and if you have any electrical issues you can get noises like buzzing when making calls.
