Don't remember seeing one like that on left side but I do have one like that or very similar on the right side that plugs in in double temperature switch on the radiator on 1998 S8. I will have a look later.

Thanks that would make sense - and it depends on your L&R - if I am standing in front of the car it is to my right :-)

Sorry forgot to check on my car.
I can see in the picture that it is in the left side of car( as you sit in) where the ABS pump is. I have now checked on my car 1998 S8 RHD and I cannot see that plug on my car, only one that looks the same is on the other side where the airbox is and that goes to double temperature switch in the radiator. Maybe I just cannot see or it could be the difference between LHD and RHD or between A8 and S8. Or maybe if the front end have been off your car the cable is now routed to the wrong place. I will check Etka in a short while to see if there is different part number for radiator between LHD and RHD or A8 and S8 4.2's.

Looks like there are 2 radiator possibilities for PF V8's, no difference between RHD or LHD or A8/S8, only depend on chassis number but I do not know if temperature switch is on the same side on both or not.

had a look round the radiator and cannot see any plug - think I need to get it on ramps for a proper look

Does look like the radiator plug - on my FL A8 it was on the left as you look into the engine bay - very awkward to get to but doable!!

Plug a scanner into it and read what the coolant temperature is. If its giving an incorrect reading this could make fans come on all the time.

May not help but it happens with modern vw's/skodas, if the outside air temperature sensor is not working or have the wires cut/broken OR by unplugging it from the sensor it has corrosion inside THIS will make the fans stay on.

Its located at the front bumper area

"EDIT" ignore previous post though it was the right hand side
