Speed sensitive steering issue
My speed sensitive steering seems a tad lighter at one side than other (im not sure if its in my head or not)
Is there any way I can disconnect it without the dash lighting up with fault codes (or reprogram it?) |
Yes! easily. In the passenger footwell behind the chipboard there is a relay box.
One of those relays is the speed sensitive steering relay. I will check tonight which one it is and let you know. When you take that out the steering will become heavier at all speeds, but to me it feels more accurate. Its not connected to the ECU diagnostics so no fault codes will be stored. The relay stopped working on my old S8 and I realised I quite liked the slightly heavier steering. On my new S8 it was the first thing I did, just pulled that relay. |
Iv never particularly liked the variable steering - it seems weird

I liked the Servotronic on my PF S8, especially how it tightened up at high speed. ;)

Dave its relay no. 605 there is a white sticker on top of it.
Also there is a sticker on one of its sides which says Servotronic. My impression is without the relay it leaves the valve closed, so there is no increased assistance as the speed slows. I found it too light anyway, now I feel like I am driving a big car. |
