Drivers side back light
Hi chaps the drivers side back led light has stopped working both brake and the light on the boot is ok. Do I need a new light or is it repaireable,it's on the cars check list between the dash clocks, plus the car has been indoors for over 12 mth so no leaks

It depends, is it the older style lights 2003>2008 if it is the leds fail as they get older and it can be repaired, if the whole assy is not working them the control pcb will need replacing
|
Failure is usually caused by water getting in at some point which causes the circuit board joints to slowly corrode. it happens over a long period, so could have happened anytime.
Only way to know for sure is to remove the light assembly, dismantle and have a look. The outer ones are easy to remove, but the boot lid ones a little harder. |
I had the same and it turned out that 5 out of 24 LEDs were dead. I called Audi, and they wanted to sell me new rear light unit for just £270. I said no thank you, instead I searched this forum and found that LEDs can be replaced (soldered). I replaced all 24 LEDs and it started working again. I think if few of the LEDs die it will automatically switch all of them off. I bought new LEDs off eBay, they were £4 for a bag of 50 or 100pcs. They are the "strawhat" type LED.

The car is 2004 and the indicator and the rest work it's just the stop and tail lights, how would I have it repaired thanks

You'll need to remove it and take it apart first to assess the damage, or just buy a replacement from ebay. The light assembly is actually quiet a complex piece of electronics.

Found a nice little piece in sheffield that will replace them for £50
