Headlight washer motor

If the headlight washer motor has gone, would it show up on a VagCom scan?

I dont think it would, theres no intelligence in it afaik....

Yeah it's dumb as far as I know. Is it intermittent or completely dead? Mine would work randomly and then not - I thought it was a hose or pressure issue but turned out to be a corroded connector not allowing sufficient current

Not working at all

It's 'dumb'.. You need to listen for it when you run it.. usually loud enough to hear when the ignition is on.

I'm not sure the headlight ones fire every time you use the washers Jim?

I assumed mine weren't working at first, until I discovered one night that when using the washers, they have to be on for several seconds before the ones on the lights would operate, as I tend to give the window short blasts of the washer. Not sure if the lights have to be on as well.

Yes, I've tried holding them on for a while, headlights on and engine running - nothing. But how do you know you can/can't hear it when the windscreen washer motor is running at the same time?

PsYcHe 4th December 2014 06:48 AM

The headlamp one will usually run just afterwards when you let go of the stalk.

I noticed a pool of water on the garage floor this morning, under the front of the car. I'd tried the headlight washers in front of the garage door last night, just before I put the car away - and it wasn't raining.

So maybe just a leak? Fingers crossed - will investigate at the weekend (once I've put the Xmas tree up).
