The Ultimate MPG log?

OK, I know I probably need help, but I've now logged every single tank-full of fuel for over 3 years and 52,000 miles. With odometer readings for accurate calculation, this must be evidence of severe OCD! :o

What is interesting is how MPG seems to have improved over the three years, particularly since switching to Shell V Power (and how the MPG drops every time it goes in to A4 Audi).

My place of work hasn't changed and my commute is a mix of narrow country roads, dual carriageway and motorway, around 36 miles each way, averaging 43 MPH (but it's usually a pretty stop-start journey).

So, an overall average of 21.45 MPG from an S8: not bad IMHO! +++

can anyone open this file? I just tried and failed. Let's try a pdf.

The file opened straight away for me, so it looks like it is working fine.

Works fine for me too +++

Thanks Guys. I've added a pdf just in case others are sad enough to want to read it and have problems!

Spreadsheet opened fine for me…

I wouldn't have the patience to prepare a spreadsheet, but I do like reading it +++.

Your overall average of 21.4 is a bit better than my (DIS) average of 20.6, but that's probably because I don't use mine for commuting ;)

I also use a mix of Tesco Momentum, Shell Nitro, and BP Ultimate (the last of these is hard to get hold of near me tho'), and don't think there's much to choose between them.

That's dedicated

It's interesting that you noticed an improvement after servicing, I remember watching an episode of fifth gear that showed the importance of clean oil.

They did a test where they nailed a car up the road and measured it's performance then changed the oil and did the same again and there was a noted improvement.

My DIS reads 22.8, but I think it's widely acknowledged that they read high. I also did some work form the spreadsheet data that showed that Shell V Power was better than BP Ultimate in terms of MPG, and I think it's higher octane too.

As you can see, I hardly ever use BP any more, not just 'cos I think the Shell stuff is better, but because the staff at the BP station on the way to work (A82 at Milton) are a bunch of dozy dossers who often leave you stood at the pump for ages before they stop chatting and turn it on! I've had to go and knock on the kiosk window quite a few times. And they're too busy stocking shelves and serving coffee to deal with the queue of people at the tills. And don't start me about people who do their weekly shop at a petrol station.....

Right, off to take my medication...
