My best mod so far (FREE!)

This is for anyone with a quiet A8/S8 like mine. Before I did this my car sounded as though the engine was powered by air, no matter how hard I pushed the pedal, no V8 sound came out of it ever. I then drilled the airbox and OMG what a diffrence, theres a deep low V8 grumble (you will know what I mean when you do it) I was out all last night driving it with a grin on my face, turns heads everywhere and sounds goregeous. I didn't expect it to make such a diffrence, I thought it would be more a case of 'I think its a bit louder, ermm maybe, could just be my imgination' but this has totally transformed the sound of my car and saved me a hell of a lot of money, I'm not going to bother with an exhuast now for a while yet. My advice to anyone with an 8 is to do it. +++
I did do it to my A8 but couldnt tell as my quads with no silencers saw to that.
One thing I did notice was that when I drilled my 97 A8 it didn't have a air pump, in the airbox at least (I think thats what James called it) but my 2001 S8 did, all I did was disconnect it to take the airbox out. I will do my 96 A8 when its back on the road to let A8 owners know what it sounds like, although I imagine it would be much the same. A deep V8 grumble :D:D:D

EDIT: Forgot to add that when driving normally, it sounds like it normally would. Its only when you boot it that the engine sounds so good, about after 3k revs you get the most sound I rekon.

Heres a picture of Jame's airbox, I think this could be from his old A8? As my airpump restricted me doing the holes on that surface and I put a few on other surfaces of the airbox.

You have to do it! +++

OMG Just got my mate to drop me off in the S8 to college because theres no parking and I dont like leaving it here and when he drove off, the sound was so deep and growly, I prefer it to the quads on my old A8 and its nearly as loud, I can't stress how good it is! This is a S8 owner must!! :love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

Top tip this Amar! +++

Does fitting a cone filter have the same effect?

Will it affect the mixture ratio or is that a dumb question:Confused:

No; its before the MAF and filter. The only thing that might happen is a small loss of performance due to it sucking hot air from the engine bay. This however may be offset by the extra breathing capability! :Confused:

Performance wise I can't see no diffrence at all. Maybe its lost/gained 1-2 BHP but I can guarntee you won't care when you hear the deep grumble your car will make, I can't stop driving it. Usually I would be driving the Bimmer around town on silly little joruneys and the S8 on longer ones but its just been the S8 today, people 7/8 car lengths ahead turn there head when I press the loud pedal. I got back to my car today and there was a guy leaning up against a van staring at my grill and said 'Is that a V8?' Yeah I said opening the bonnet 'sounds good' he said. Then he went on to tell me he had a V12 Cobra or something :rolleyes:

Sounds please ;-)

Now of course we need some sound bytes adding to that other thread... ;)
