Close the power boot with remote for $20

Hello,

I thought since it's day 2 of my time on this forum, and 4 people have offered to help me, I would return the favour to you all.

I have installed a small relay to enable the door button and the remote to close the power boot.

This gets around the expensive and tricky Kufatec module.

Basically, the way the remote and door button work, is when pressed, the latch gets a pulse through the two pins in the middle of the plug. This operates the latch on the trunk door.

The latch operates if the boot is open or closed, the only time it won't work is if the car is moving or if the Kessey key isn't detected by the car.

I installed a small relay MR 301-12 http://www.wellgainelectronics.com/P...00B2%20(a).JPG

Into the wiring loom of the trunk lid to connect the latch motor wiring and the door close button on the trunk lid.

Explained, what happens is, when the lid is open, and the remote/door button is pressed, the relay, triggered by the latch motor 12V pulse, connects the two middle wires on the trunk lid close button.

The car thinks the button has been pressed (as the close button is just a momentary switch for close trunk circuit) and closes the boot lid.

For the relay,

The green and brown wires on the latch are the relay coil. Pins 85 & 86
And the Normally Open pin and pin 30 on the relay would be the two middle wires on the boot close button (the two outermost wires are for the button light).

You splice the relay wires in, do not cut any wires. Then secure the relay and test it. No coding, no worries. The comfort computer isn't getting any extra power, and the lid works as per factory.

Any questions feel free to ask.

(I must also thank a great bloke called Louis who developed and assisted with this mod)

Nice, very tidy and logical.... Same concept should work for all 'autoboot' Audis.....

Wifes Q7 might be getting a mod very shortly.... ;)

Thanks for contributing.... +++

Great! I will have a go at this one. Although so far no joy finding the exact same relay. I had a quick look on eBay and RS components...

Any small 12 volt relay from Maplin. I did this last year to my D3 but located the relay in the battery compartment. Electrically exactly the same, just saved dropping the boot lid cover. I think my relay cost about £2. (Actually £2.98)
I probably still have one on another project so if anyone needs help I'll check the part number.

Did this mod today, made up a simple diagram for anyone else considering it.
