Tiptronic curiosity
Gearbox is working normally, it shifts when it always did and kicks down as normal and there's no red light of death, it is normal in all respects. I don't use tip very often but I had the need of it at the weekend and moving the lever produced absolutely no response. Nuthin! Nada! Nowt! It just carried on all automatic and completely normal. Anyone else had a similar issue? Haven't had chance to enquire of the computer for codes just hoping its a simple "the wire falls off" thing. Answers on a postcard.......

To quote Roy Trenneman, "have you tried turning it off and on again?". :)
On the occasions my Tiptronic has refused to work, it's usually been because of some glitch or fault. If it's an intermittent issue, after pulling over and turning the ignition off for few seconds, it usually works again. |
There seem to be several online comments about magnets falling off on "lesser" models, not sure if A8 mechanism is the same though.
Have a Google. ;) |
When you move the selector over, then the DIS display should change from PRNDS to 54321 and display the currently selected gear. If the display remains unchanged then I guess something in the selector is broken relating to the change from auto to tip.

I seem to remember an audi recall about the gear selector as mine was done a few years ago - check and see if yours has had it done

I know it's supposed to change display ;) off and on makes no difference at all. Looks like I'll have to actually check the codes................
