did the S8 facelift (40v/360bhp) start please?

were there any differences other than the engine?

There was a bit of a bleed over (by a bit, I mean upto 18 months at least!) from the preface to post face, so although in theory production cut over approximately October 1998, in reality there were many old pre face cars that continued to get registered into 1999, and even 2000.

The S8 facelift started at the same time as the A8 facelift, and shares all the same uplifts, colour DIS, different door handles, chrome topped bumpers, flush headlamp wash, etc etc etc

For the avoidance of doubt, the Facelift VINs started at 4D-X-005001, where 4D represents the A8 D2, the '-' can be ignored for comparision purposes, and the rest is simply sequential. Anthing with a 'X' above 5001, or any letter (or number) above X is a facelift. The series is alphanumberic with numbers being high.

I knew there would be a bit of an 'overlap' but never imagined it would be as long as 18 months, so I'm glad I asked! Best thing for a novice like me is to check the VIN then :rolleyes:
