Who Is A Silly Boy

Hi All You Super Heroes,
We had the builders in today, rebuilding the front hall and fitting a new door, so I had to stay close for tea making duties. Not bad really 'cos the sun was shining and it was rather warm.
Took advantage and changed the supply for the dash camera to the roof electrics (Thanks to Scott ) and added a remote emergency event button to the dash, the one on the camera is awkward to reach in a hurry.
Then spent some time working in the boot trying a camera to use as a reversing aid. It worked better than expected, even used a transmitter on the camera video output and it's matching receiver as an input to Aux 2 on the Analogue TV Tuner. Now if I could find an ignition hot in the boot I would be a very happy bunny.
I thought that the Nav DVD reader supply would be just what was needed. Took the unit out, unplugged the supply and checked. Bummer, it was always on, no good for me. While it was out I decided to rip out and throw away the very badly fitted tracker gear that had been fitted from new. Then refitted the Nav DVD player. Put all the tools away, made another brew, and went out for some paint for the new woodwork.
Tried the event button, the camera said event recorded, wow! success.
Then realised the MMI screen had not come up, no music. Pressed radio, then all the other buttons, still no screen. Pressed the screen open button and up came the screen but it was blank. Tried all sorts of chants, incantations, swear words (even invented some) and then pleaded for divine intervention. Of course, all to no avail, I was in deep dooh dah, she is gonna kill me, where is my passport, I need to start running away.
Had to resort to undo everything I had done and fortunately working backwards the first thing was Nav DVD player out. There it was, the culprit.
Well it was me really, hands up Guv.
I had forgotten to plug the supply back in to the Nav DVD player.
Hence the subject name.

Not sure about the D3 Nav DVD, but the D2 CD changer DEFINITELY has both always on and ignition-switched +12V supplies.
Did you check after some time, some circuits are on a delay from ignition off?

The D3 has a six CD player in the glove box alongside the AMI player, and a Nav DVD player in the boot.
The supply to the Nav DVD player has three wires in the plug. Two always hot and one earth. I was using a high resistance LED display tester so one of the always hot could have been a signal wire.
I'm not sure how these things work but using my old world experience I think that the signal wire tells the unit to switch on. BUT please don't believe everything I say, I'm only guessing.

'Everything' on the D3 seems to have permanent 12v and goes to sleep/power-saving some time after ignition is switched off by way of a CAN command. There is a low power wake up signal from the CAN gateway to start them up again.

I too would like to find a switched 12v in the boot, but it doesn't seem to exist.

Hey, Thanks for that. As someone else said, "every day is a school day".
Really nice to know that this well worn grey matter is still ticking over.
Now I need to find a Terminal 15 in the boot :-(

Can uses two wires (in case other following don't know) via a can low and can high / two separate wires.

Thanks Neil,
I am now a lot wiser, and I have a reversing camera.
Had to take the boot handle off and attack it with the ever faithful Dremel.
I have used the Tx/Rx pair that I played with yesterday.
I have used Aux 2 on the analgue TV tuner.
I now need to put a wire from Ignition hot in the left hand dash fuse box to the boot so that the Rx will only be live with ignition. That can wait till later in the week.
The camera is powered by the reversing light feed to the leftside inner light cluster.
