I have a friend who was involved in a bad accident a few years ago, he was on the fosseway which is a very straight Roman road running north from Cirencester across to Leicester. The road is very undulating over all the hills and slopes of the Cotswolds.
He was driving along in a 7 series BMW and when he came up from one of these dips to the brow of the hill he faced another car which was overtaking another vehicle and was on his side of the road. The old lady driving it had not thought about unseen cars hidden in the dips and had just overtaken thinking the road was all clear a way ahead. He swerved to try and miss her but the two cars hit head on on the corner of each car as he swerved away into the verge and he took off and his car rolled into the fields to the left.
The other lady driver was unfortunately killed in the impact and my friend was only saved from the same fate by the fact that he was in a big 7 series BMW and that his seat belt saved him from much worse injuries. He had a year long recuperation from the accident and still has some aches and pains but his kids still have a dad. Sobering stuff and something that makes me think that driving around in a car as big and strong as an 8 is a very good idea.
