Car doesn't shut down due to keys not present, but if they didn't realise they hadn't got the keys until after they'd legged it, they would quickly have realised they only had the option to drive it until they had to shut it off and then it wouldn't have restarted.
The conspiracy theorists on facebook are convinced it's an insurance job and can't even understand it's not with the original owner now
