Every engines different but I've had engines before when one tooth out and they have not clipped , you have the thickness of the head gasket and some combustion space , diesels can run much closer as less chamber

When at top dead on the crank , the cam that is out which way do you have to turn the cam to get it to align .... clock or anti clock .

Put it correct and cross your fingers when starting .
