Thanks A8_Doc, I will ask them about the gears and the brain. Just spoke with VMTP now, told them I need the box to last another 10 years at least and Nigel said that's no problem, they have it on the bench now and will check everything over and let me know what they recommend changing tomorrow.
Good news is that the AA warranty have agreed to pay up too, its paid for itself. Only pay about £3/4 a month for it on top of my standard breakdown cover and still have 5 claims left this year.
