I would like to hear your experiences or the experiences of people you know re the best cars for high mileage, low cost work.
There are urban myths about some prestige brands but I want to avoid cars where owners cherish them and are willing to drop loads of dosh to keep running / like the car was when new (i.e. Like our A8s!)

Thing is I am considering a job offer in Nottingham, 120 mile round trip so 600 miles a week. This is a LOT for me and ain't going to run the legs off of my baby...
My plan so far (such as it is) is an already gassed up 4 cylinder Nissan Primera / Toyota Avensis or similar "bore-mobile" , everyday quality but nill image or sentiment.
But what real examples do YOU know of, the 200,000 miles + motors you've come across?
I really will be grateful for your thoughts as the job pays only "OK" money and the costs of commute could swing it for me.
